Kin 2 is White Wind with tone 2, and the sign returns every twenty days after that. If you were born on 1 January 2000, for example, your kin is 102, White Wind with tone 11, Spectral.

The nature of the sign

Red Dragon brings something into being. White Wind is what happens next: the thing has to be said. Ik is breath and word and the invisible thread between people who understand each other. It is the air that carries a voice across a room.

In the old stories the wind was the breath of the gods, the way a message travelled between the worlds. I think of it more simply. White Wind is the sign of the person who finds the words when nobody else can.

People come to a White Wind when they are confused. They leave with a sentence that makes sense of it. That is the gift, and it is a rarer one than it sounds.

Who you are

You are curious about everything. How things work, why people do what they do, what a word really means. Your mind moves quickly from one idea to the next, making connections other people miss, and you are rarely happier than in a good conversation that goes somewhere.

You talk well and you probably write well too. You enjoy a debate, though not for the sake of winning. What you are after is understanding, and you will cheerfully change your mind if someone shows you something better.

The cost of a quick mind is a restless one. You get bored. You wander off, in your head if not in your feet, and the people around you sometimes feel the draught.

Strengths

Clarity. You can take something tangled and lay it out so that anyone can follow it. That makes you a natural teacher, writer, counsellor or explainer of any kind, and it makes you the friend everyone rings when they need a second opinion.

You are also fair. A White Wind can hold two sides of an argument in the one head without feeling threatened by either, and in my experience that is one of the kindest things a person can do for a friend in trouble.

Challenges

The shadow of White Wind is living entirely from the neck up. The mind is so good that it is tempting to stay there, to analyse a feeling instead of having it, to talk a thing through rather than sit with it. Some truths can only be felt. That is the lesson that follows this sign around.

The same quick mind can turn into a weapon. A clever tongue finds the weak spot in an argument, and sometimes in a person, before the heart has caught up. Watch for that. Being right is not the same as being kind, and the people who love you will remember the second one.

And there is the scattering. Too many ideas, too many open tabs, none of them finished. The wind blows everywhere, and the work is learning where to blow.

In love and work

In love you want a partner you can talk to. Romance in the candlelit sense interests you less than a long conversation that runs late into the night, and you are devoted to telling the truth and hearing it back. You need room to explore and a partner who does not read your curiosity as a threat.

The messier side of feeling is harder for you. When a partner is upset you reach for a solution, and sometimes what they want is for you to stop solving and sit down. Your friendships often matter as much as your romances, because friends ask less and let you roam.

At work you belong anywhere words carry meaning: teaching, writing, journalism, counselling, any role that turns something complicated into something a person can use. You struggle when you are silenced or when your ideas are brushed aside without a hearing. Give a White Wind a room to speak in and a listener who means it, and watch what happens.

Your sign across the tones

Every White Wind also carries one of the thirteen tones, and the tone changes how the sign is lived. The Thirteen Tones page covers each one in full.

With a low tone, 1 to 4, the voice is just finding itself. Tone 1 White Wind knows exactly what needs to be said and says it. Tone 2 hears both sides before it speaks, and tone 3, in the library's own example, carries unusual communicative power, words that move people to act.

With a middle tone, 5 to 9, the voice has authority and is learning to use it well. Tone 6 White Wind speaks to bring a room back into balance. Tone 7 has an ear for what is not being said, and tone 8 weighs how a sentence will travel before it lets it go.

With a high tone, 10 to 13, the voice is ripening. Tone 11 White Wind, the kin 102 example above, is the questioner who sees through a tidy explanation to what is actually going on. Tone 12 speaks for a group rather than for itself, and tone 13, kin 182, has said everything it needs to and knows when to be quiet.

Across the traditions

White Wind sits in the white family, the five signs that refine what the red signs begin. If you know your Western chart, you will recognise something of the air signs here, Gemini in particular, and the Western Astrology section covers the elements and the twelve signs. The Chinese Astrology section and the Vedic Astrology section each have their own way of describing the quick, talkative mind, and they are worth reading alongside this page rather than instead of it.
