If your Western chart gave you a Gemini Moon or a Gemini Sun, the sidereal zodiac quite likely moves it back one sign into Taurus. The Sidereal and Tropical page explains the 24 degree gap. The Moon sign comes first in Jyotish, so that is where I begin.

Your sidereal Moon in Taurus

Your feelings are slow and deep. When something affects you, you take it in over time rather than all at once, and when you are settled you stay settled for long stretches. You are not volatile, not easily thrown and not restless. That slowness is the signature of your inner life, and the Moon is at its strongest here because the Moon likes nothing better than a steady home.

What you need is stability, comfort and the continuity of what you love. You do not enjoy being uprooted. You build attachments to people, to places and to things, and those attachments are part of how you feel like yourself. Take them away and you are not quite you for a while.

You have a large capacity for enjoyment. Food tastes better to you, music lands deeper, touch reaches further than it does for most of the zodiac. The world of the senses is real nourishment for this Moon, and a life stripped of it drains you slowly without you quite noticing why.

Your mind holds on. You remember well, and especially you remember what was felt. You are the one who keeps the family history, who notices when an old pattern has come round again, whose memory anchors a group. You process slowly too. New information takes time to settle and big changes take weeks or months to land. Rushed, you integrate shallowly. Given time, you reach a depth of understanding that quicker Moons rarely touch.

You are hard to shake. Under pressure your nervous system does not fray the way more volatile Moons do, and that steadiness makes you the person in a crisis whose calm lets everyone else settle. I have seen one Taurus Moon in a room change the temperature of the whole room without saying a word.

Three things keep this Moon well. A settled home and settled relationships, because frequent moves and unreliable partners wear on you far more than they would on an adaptable sign. Sensory pleasure, good food, comfortable surroundings, time outdoors, which are fuel for you. And acceptance without performance, at least one place in your life where you are loved for existing rather than for producing.

The shadow is staying too long. Your love of stability can hold you in a relationship, a job or a house well past the point where it stopped fitting, simply because leaving feels worse than the discomfort of remaining. Knowing when to release is the work of this placement, and it is never finished.

A second shadow is possessiveness. Loving something can tip into wanting to own it, and ownership applied to a person is control. The mature Taurus Moon has learned that love means respecting the freedom of what you love. A third is overconsumption, food or drink or comfort pursued past enjoyment into numbness. Savouring and consuming are different acts, and learning the difference is part of growing up with this Moon.

In relationship you are constant, affectionate and physical, and you want the same back. You are at your best with someone who values loyalty over excitement and who will not keep moving the furniture. At work you are the reliable one, the long game player, the person whose steady output outlasts the flashier starts around you.

Your sidereal Sun in Taurus

The sidereal Sun is the purpose underneath the personality, and in Taurus that purpose is to build.

You are here to make things that last. Houses, gardens, businesses, families, bodies of work, financial foundations, whatever the material, your fulfilment comes from tangible output that accumulates across the years. Lives given over to the abstract or the short lived tend to leave you underfed no matter how impressive they look from outside.

You know who you are through what stands solid beneath you. Constant change, chronic uncertainty and a life lived entirely on screens weaken you over time. You need roots, in the ground and in the heart.

People experience you as dependable. When you say you will do something it gets done, and when you commit to someone you stay. Your word holds. This is quiet bedrock, and it is probably your most undervalued quality because it is so undramatic. You move at your own pace too. Pressure to hurry just raises the resistance, and the results usually vindicate the pace.

Your path involves the body. Just the long relationship of feeding it, moving it, resting it and listening to it. In Taurus the body is part of the spiritual equipment. And your path involves pleasure without guilt. That is the purpose. A monkish life, however high minded, leaves this Sun hungry.

The shadow is inertia when the roots have outgrown the soil, and a second is treating material security as the whole point rather than the means. The mature Taurus Sun has learned that abundance is an instrument. A third shadow is possessiveness, treating the people you love as assets to be held rather than beings to be respected, and the Venusian warmth can slide into control if it is never examined.

Venus and the nakshatras of Taurus

Venus is Shukra in Jyotish, a benefic, the graha of beauty, pleasure and attachment. In Taurus Venus works through earth rather than through the diplomacy of Libra, so the Venusian warmth here is held rather than performed. The Grahas page covers Venus in full.

Three nakshatras fall within sidereal Taurus. The last three quarters of Krittika open the sign, Rohini takes the middle, and the first half of Mrigashira closes it before Gemini. Rohini is the Moon's own nakshatra, which is one reason the Moon is so comfortable in this rashi. Each has its own page in The Nakshatras, and if your Moon is in Taurus, find out which of the three it sits in, because that is the detail I read first.

Across the traditions

The Western Taurus page in The Signs is the pair of this one. Measured from the equinox, Western Taurus describes the settled middle of a season. Measured from the stars, sidereal Taurus describes the same bull against a different backdrop. Most people with a sidereal Taurus Moon were told they had a Gemini Moon, and the Moon in the Signs page gives that Western reading. Both belong in the picture, and in my readings they sit side by side.

What are you holding onto that stopped fitting a while ago?
