If your Western chart gave you a Libra Moon or a Libra Sun, the sidereal zodiac quite likely moves it back one sign into Virgo. The Sidereal and Tropical page explains the 24 degree gap. In Jyotish the Moon sign comes first, so I start there.

Your sidereal Moon in Virgo

Your feelings are examined before they are expressed. You do not broadcast raw emotion. You notice it, work out what is happening, and then decide how it meets the world. That can make people think you feel less than you do. You feel plenty. You are just deliberate about the delivery.

What you need is competence, usefulness and order. When your surroundings are organised and your work is going well, you feel well. When things are chaotic and there is nothing useful you can do, you are unsettled in a way that looser Moons never quite understand.

You care quietly. Your love comes out as acts of service, the small attentions, the practical help, the ordinary kindness that does not announce itself. It is not showy, and the people who receive it know exactly what it is.

Your mind processes analytically. Events get examined for what they mean, what you might have done differently and what pattern they belong to. That produces real understanding, and left unchecked it also produces the three in the morning replay of a mistake from six years ago. You need to understand before you can move on. An Aries Moon burns through a feeling in an afternoon. You need to know what happened and why, and rushed closure leaves a residue.

Your nervous system is sensitive to disorder. Physical mess, social chaos and ambiguity each create a low background hum of anxiety for you, and keeping your immediate surroundings reasonably in order is maintenance of your baseline. I have never met a Virgo Moon who could think clearly at a messy desk, and I have met a lot of Virgo Moons.

Three things keep this Moon well. Meaningful work, which means work that is useful to someone, plants or animals or patients or clients, the recipient matters less than there being one. An ordered environment, a home kept up and a calendar that is not a riot, because these are the conditions under which your system can rest. And relationships where your careful attention is received rather than mocked, because a partner who calls your concern for detail pettiness, or who cannot see the love inside the acts of service, slowly drains you.

The shadow is the inner critic. The analytical eye turned on yourself, unchecked, produces a harsh voice that is rarely fair, and the mature Virgo Moon has learned to tell accurate self assessment from plain cruelty. A second shadow is anxious monitoring, of your health, your relationships, your work, until the care that serves you becomes a vigilance that exhausts you. Deliberate rest from checking is medicine here. A third is difficulty receiving. You know how to look after people and you often have no idea how to be looked after, and relationships suffer when that stays lopsided.

In relationship you are attentive, loyal and practical, and you want a partner who notices the small things you do and lets you be cared for in return. At work you are the one who catches what everyone else missed and the one who stays calm and does what needs doing when it all goes wrong. You are often a natural counsellor, because when feelings are muddled you can say what is actually happening.

Your sidereal Sun in Virgo

The sidereal Sun is the purpose underneath the personality, and in Virgo that purpose is to refine.

You are here to take raw material, ideas, products, people, systems, and make it better. The urge towards improvement runs deep. You notice what is almost right and not quite, and the noticing is where your contribution begins. You know who you are through what you can do well, what problems you can solve and who you have helped, and a life without meaningful work leaves this Sun underfed.

People experience you as competent. Whatever you take on you do thoroughly, and your work holds up. You are modest in style and often not in substance. You do not announce yourself, so your value shows over time through the quality of what you produce, and some people never see it because they mistook modesty for a lack of substance. The ones who look properly see what is there.

Your path is craft, becoming properly good at something over years rather than passably good at many things. Your path is service, work connected to a patient or a client or a cause, because purely self directed work tends to feel hollow to you. And your path is repair. Plenty of Virgo Suns work in health, and the repair runs wider than medicine. Your attention restores systems and relationships that had stopped working.

The shadow is perfectionism that stops anything leaving the workshop. Letting good work leave the workshop before it is flawless is mature discipline. A second is discernment tipping into complaint, and the cure is naming what is good as carefully as you name what is wrong. A third is the self criticism that never lets up. This Sun wants you skilled.

Mercury and the nakshatras of Virgo

Mercury is Budha in Jyotish, a benefic when well placed, the graha of analysis, speech and skill. In Virgo it both rules and is exalted, so this is Mercury at full strength, the sharp mind married to practical application. The Grahas page covers Mercury in full.

Three nakshatras fall within sidereal Virgo. The last three quarters of Uttara Phalguni open the sign, Hasta takes the middle, and the first half of Chitra runs to the boundary with Libra. Each has its own page in The Nakshatras. If your Moon is in Virgo, find out which of the three it sits in, because that is the detail I read first.

Across the traditions

The Western Virgo page in The Signs is the pair of this one. The Western sign is counted from the solstice and describes the harvest end of a season, the sidereal sign is counted from the stars, and they describe the same maiden from different vantage points. Most people with a sidereal Virgo Moon were told they had a Libra Moon, and the Moon in the Signs page gives that Western reading. Both belong in the picture, and in my readings they sit side by side.

What would you let someone else do for you this week, without correcting how they did it?

If you would like this read against your own chart, my readings are here.
