This page pairs with the Pisces page in the Western section. The two zodiacs sit about 24 degrees apart, so a good many people who read as an Aries Sun or Moon in the Western chart land here when the chart is cast sidereally. The Sidereal and Tropical page explains the one sign back rule. If you were told you were a bold, charging Aries and spent your life wondering where the charge went, this may be your answer.

In Jyotish the Moon comes first, so that is where I start.

Your sidereal Moon in Pisces

The rashi is the sidereal Moon sign, and in Vedic reading it is the deepest description of who you are. The Moon is the mind and the feeling life, the part of you that responds before thought has arrived.

A Pisces Moon puts that feeling life in a water sign ruled by Jupiter. Your feelings are oceanic. You merge with what you feel. Other people's emotions walk straight into you, atmospheres change you, and the suffering of someone on the other side of the world can reach you across a news bulletin. The line between you and the world is thin, and it was built that way.

What you need is a spiritual life, room for the imagination and connection with real compassion in it. A purely material life starves this Moon no matter how comfortable it is. You are deeply empathic, and that is how you perceive, built in from the start. You feel what others feel, sometimes more clearly than they feel it themselves. That is your gift and your soft spot in the one package.

Your mind works through dream, image and subtle sensing. You know things without being able to show your working. You dream something and it turns out true. You sense a current in a room that surfaces a month later. You also process slowly and in cycles. Some days you are open to everything, other days you need to pull the blinds down, and a big emotional event can take months to settle in ways that surprise you. Modern life is loud for you. Noise, crowds, screens, constant busyness, they overload you faster than they overload more buffered placements, and your baseline needs protecting.

You need practice, and I do not mean that as an option. Meditation, prayer, time in the bush or by the water, creative work done in the right spirit, one or more of these is a requirement for your well being. You need solitude, regular and protected and without apology, because your porous nature fills up with other people's material and without time alone to empty out, you slowly turn into someone else. And you need people who treat your sensitivity as information rather than inconvenience.

The gifts are the deep ones. You can hold another person's suffering without flinching, and the holding itself heals. What comes through you in art, music, writing or spiritual practice tends to carry weight that technique alone cannot explain. And you read subtle information about people and situations that other placements miss, and when you trust it, it is usually right.

The work is in three places. The first is boundaries. The permeability that makes your compassion possible can become a merging in which you lose yourself in other people's material. Strong boundaries are what make your sensitivity sustainable.

The second is escape. Substances, fantasy, chronic daydreaming, spiritual bypassing, the pull toward dissolving can become a way of avoiding ordinary life. Learning which dissolutions serve you and which harm you is central work.

The third is losing your own feelings in everybody else's. Asking what do I feel, alongside what are they feeling, is a daily practice for this Moon and it gets easier.

In love you want someone who welcomes the sensitivity and gives you room to retreat. At work you are drawn to care, to creativity and to anything with a spiritual thread in it. Fire elsewhere in the chart adds initiative, earth adds grounding, air adds words. The Pisces water core holds.

Your sidereal Sun in Pisces

The Sun in Jyotish is the soul and the sense of self, a step behind the Moon but still the thread the chart hangs on. A sidereal Sun in Pisces says you came here to go beyond the ordinary self and to serve. The spiritual, the imaginative and the compassionate are the centre of your design.

In Jyotish Pisces belongs to Jupiter. Neptune is a modern Western assignment. Jupiter here works through water, so its generosity and wisdom arrive as deep feeling rather than fiery faith. People experience you as unusually sensitive. You pick up what others miss, feel what others cannot name, and know things without knowing how. Your inner life is rich with images, dreams and stories, and the making that comes out of it is often your contribution. You are compassionate by default and you tend to act on it.

Your path is the steady cultivation of spiritual life. Formal practice matters more for you than for most, since you practise your way to maturity. You are meant to create, in whatever medium is yours, because unused creative capacity turns inward and goes stale. And you are meant to serve those who suffer. Nurses, hospice workers, counsellors, artists, clergy, carers of every kind, this Sun fills those roles because the soul fits them.

The shadow is escapism, boundarylessness that rescues people who needed to face their own consequences, and a sense that life simply happens to you and your hands are not on the wheel. Claiming authorship of your own life is the work, and it does not make you any less kind.

Fire elsewhere in the chart adds initiative, earth adds grounding, air adds structure. The compassionate core holds.

The ruling graha and the nakshatras

Jupiter, Guru in Sanskrit and also called Brihaspati, rules Pisces and Sagittarius. Jupiter is the great benefic of Jyotish, the graha of wisdom, faith and expansion, and in Pisces its wisdom turns inward and softens into compassion. Venus is exalted here, so love and beauty are at their highest reach in this sign. Neptune has no place in classical Jyotish, and the Vedic Pisces does not need it.

Three nakshatras fall across sidereal Pisces. The last part of Purva Bhadrapada, ruled by Jupiter, runs from 0 to 3 degrees 20 minutes and begins in Aquarius. Uttara Bhadrapada, ruled by Saturn, runs from 3 degrees 20 minutes to 16 degrees 40 minutes. Revati, ruled by Mercury, runs from 16 degrees 40 minutes to 30 degrees and closes the whole circle of twenty seven. Each has its own page in The Nakshatras, and I read the Moon's nakshatra before I read its sign, so if you know your sidereal Moon's degree, start there.

Across the traditions

The Western Pisces page describes the tropical sign, and the Moon in the Signs page gives the Western Moon in Pisces. They are the pair of this page. The two zodiacs answer different questions, and I give both in every full portrait rather than asking you to pick a side.

When did you last stop and ask what you feel, rather than what everyone around you is feeling?
