The Star tarot card, Rider Waite Smith deck

Hope after the storm. Quiet healing, and faith in what comes next.

The picture

A naked woman kneels at the edge of a pool, one knee on the land and one foot in the water. She holds a jug in each hand. From one she pours water into the pool, and from the other onto the land. Above her shines a large eight pointed star, with seven smaller eight pointed stars around it. Behind her a bird sits in a tree, and hills rise in the distance.

Upright

The Star follows the Tower, and the order matters. After the lightning comes a clear night sky.

She has nothing to hide, and nothing is being asked of her except to pour. She gives back to the water and she feeds the land, one hand for the inner life and one for the outer. That is what healing looks like on this card: slow, steady, nothing dramatic.

When the Star turns up, the hard part is usually behind you. Hope returns, quietly. Aquarius brings the long view, the sense that you are part of something larger and that it is worth carrying on. You do not have to see the whole path. The star is enough light to walk by.

Reversed

Reversed, the Star is blocked. The hope is there and the healing is available, and something is stopping it reaching you: tiredness, disappointment, a habit of expecting the worst. It can also be turned inward, the person who pours hope for everybody else and keeps none back for themselves.

To tell which applies, look at who is getting the water. If nobody is, you included, the card is blocked, and the first job is rest. If others are being looked after and you are running dry, it has turned inward. Fill your own jug first. The star has not gone anywhere. It is just behind a cloud for now.

When it turns up

Where in your life is hope quietly coming back, and are you letting it in?

The Star has also been a Tarot Card of the Week. Read that post to see the card at work on a real week.
