The 78 Cards
The Tower
Major Arcana, card 16. Astrology: Mars.

The lightning strike. What was built on a false footing comes down.
The picture
A tall grey tower stands on a rocky peak against a black sky. A bolt of lightning has struck its top and knocked off the crown that sat there. Flames pour from the windows. Two people fall headfirst through the air, one of them still wearing a crown. Small drops of flame fall all around them.
Upright
The Tower is a mirror, and what it reflects is anything in your life that was built on a weak footing. A belief, a plan, a relationship, a picture of yourself. When the lightning comes, what was sound stays standing and what was never going to hold comes down.
Mars rules this card, and Mars moves fast. Tower changes rarely arrive politely. They tend to come as the news you did not see coming, the moment the story you told yourself stops working. It can feel like the ground has gone.
I read the Tower as clearing. Lessons start as a whisper, and if we keep ignoring them they get louder, until eventually something has to shake. The Tower is that shake. When the dust settles you can see the sky again, and you get to decide what you build next, and what you build it on.
Reversed
Reversed, the Tower is still a mirror. It hands down no sentence either way up. I read it most often as delayed: the shake is coming, and you or someone near you is holding the walls up with both hands. It can also be turned inward, where the collapse is happening inside you, a belief quietly giving way while everything outside looks the same.
To tell which applies, ask whether you already know which wall is cracked. If you do, and you are spending your energy propping it up, the card is delayed, and the longer the propping goes on the louder the eventual shake. If the outside world is steady and something in your thinking has shifted for good, it has turned inward. Both ask the same thing: let the weak part go.
When it turns up
What in your life are you working hard to hold up that was never built to last?
