Mediumship
Mediumship is passing on messages between those in spirit and those still here.
It is a massive subject, far too big for one page, and a lot of theatre has grown up around it. So this page keeps to the plain parts. What it is, how the messages come, how you can reach someone yourself, and the one rule that keeps you safe.
I was already teaching mediumship in my early twenties, alongside psychic development, meditation, psychometry and healing.
What actually happens
Take the theatre away and what is left is simple. Someone in spirit has a message. Someone here needs it. The medium sits in between and passes it on.
The message comes through the same senses you read about on the Clairs page.
You might smell a particular pipe tobacco while you are reading for someone, mention it, and have them connect it straight away with someone they knew who smoked a pipe and passed over long ago. It might be a particular perfume, or the smell of a kind of cooking.
You might hear something with no source in the room.
You might feel the mood of a person in spirit, the same way clairsentience lets you feel the mood of someone still living.
Those details matter. They help the person identify who the message is coming from, and they are good confirmation for you that you have the right connection.
Spirit has its own life
This is worth knowing before you visit a medium or try it yourself.
Those in spirit have their own lives to live, so to speak. They are not sitting idly by, waiting for you to make contact. Nor will they always be available when you visit a medium.
They generally come through when they have a message they want to pass on.
Time does not exist in the spirit world the way it does here. It is hard to explain.
Reaching your own
The question I have had most over the years is how can I communicate with someone who has passed over?
There are a number of methods. Deep meditation is one, and it needs to be taught step by step, so it does not fit on a page. Here is the way you can do it on your own, today.
Talk to them. Out loud, or in your mind. Both work.
It is very likely you will not get an answer, so it will feel one sided. That is normal.
Then ask them to visit you in a dream so you can talk with them. Ask, as well, that you will remember the dream.
This is the simplest method and the most likely to succeed. A dream gives them notice. You have put in a request they can respond to far more easily than a sudden call. And in a dream you get to talk with them, rather than being handed a message through someone else.
Dreams are a kind of half way house between this world and the spirit world. It is where you can interact with people who have passed over. The Dreams page goes further into this.
Be patient. It may not happen straight away.
The one rule
There is a simple rule, and I do not bend it.
Never allow a spirit attachment.
Never ask a spirit to attach to you. Any spirit that wants to attach to you is never doing it for your highest good. It is like giving a vampire free access to you, and nothing good can come of it.
A spirit that has your highest good as its intention will only ever wish to pass information on to you. It will never attach to you.
I have seen situations where lives were at risk because of spirit attachment. So please never try this to see what happens.
If you think you already have an attachment, do not try to live with it. Get help from someone experienced in breaking attachments.
Grounding and protection
Anyone doing mediumship will come across negative energies, often without being aware of it. If you do not ground regularly, you build up energy from everything you have connected with, and that tends to show up as erratic, usually negative things happening in your life. In mediumship work it is also how a spirit can end up attaching itself to you, and that can have a long term, devastating effect on your life and on the people around you.
So ground every day, and ground after every sitting. The Grounding page has the methods.
Before you sit, go through whatever cleansing and protection rituals you use, and connect with your guides. The Protection page in the Healing area covers this.
And if you come away from a reading drained, you are giving your own energy away, usually through the heart. That applies to all readers, whatever the method. The Healing Through the Crown page explains how to change where the energy flows so you finish full instead of empty.
Transfiguration
There is one form of mediumship that is rarely mentioned.
A transfiguration medium takes on the physical appearance of the spirit they are communicating with. Sometimes they can even take on the appearance of a past life incarnation.
The changes are subtle shifts of light, so a transfiguration medium needs to work in dimmed light. Most of the change is in the face. Occasionally it is the whole body.
I can still do transfiguration, although I have not done it for a few years because I have not given live demonstrations for a long time. A Japanese warrior priest, from a previous incarnation of mine, sometimes comes through.
Seeing them
Seeing spirit is a subject of its own. When it happens, it is usually your peripheral vision that picks it up first. The Seeing Spirit page explains why turning your head to look is the fastest way to lose what you saw.
Where to start
You already have the senses mediumship uses. The work is learning to trust them, and learning to tell spirit from your own head.
So start with the Monkey Mind page. Every impression you get, in a reading or at home, goes through the same process. Note the sensation, follow it to the outcome, keep the ones that were real.
Then ground, protect yourself, keep the one rule, and let those in spirit come when they have something to say.
