Vishakha
Vishakha is the sixteenth of the twenty seven nakshatras. It runs from 20 degrees of sidereal Libra to 3 degrees 20 minutes of sidereal Scorpio, so it straddles the end of the scales and the start of the scorpion. Its ruler is Jupiter.
This is the nakshatra of the goal. The people who know what they want, say so, and keep walking until they get there.
Deity, symbol and meaning
Vishakha has two deities, Indra and Agni. Indra is the king of the gods. Agni is the god of fire. Power and heat, working together.
Its symbols are a triumphal archway and a potter's wheel. The gate you pass through when the thing is done, and the wheel that turns steadily while the pot takes shape.
The meaning is purpose. Vishakha is the nakshatra of focused effort, of ambition held over time, and of the fire that carries a project all the way to the end.
The core signature
A Vishakha Moon wants something. You identify it clearly. You work toward it with sustained effort. Aim, work, arrive. That pattern runs through your whole life and you can probably trace it back to childhood.
Your temperament has two flavours because the nakshatra sits across two signs. The Libra end carries grace and diplomacy. The Scorpio end carries depth and determination. You have both and which one shows depends on what is in front of you.
You also have a charismatic determination. When you want something, other people can feel the wanting. That combination of clarity and force tends to pull resources and opportunities toward you.
The emotional life
Your feelings organise themselves around your goals. When you are making progress toward something that matters, you feel well. When you are stuck, the stuckness colours everything, including things that have nothing to do with the goal.
You are intensely loyal to the people, causes and principles that line up with your purpose. It is loyalty as an aspect of focus. You commit because the alliance serves what you are building, and you stay committed as long as it does.
And you feel real disappointment when a goal turns out to be hollow. The fire of Indra and Agni can burn out if the target was wrong. Learning to tell a worthy goal from an ego driven one is the inner work of this placement.
Strengths
The first gift is sustained determination. What you commit to, you finish. Across years, across obstacles, across the long dry middle where most people give up. Your completion rate is real and people who have worked with you know it.
The second is the ability to bring others along through clarity of purpose. When you know what you are doing, people want to follow, and the following benefits them as much as you.
The third is arrival. Vishakha is named for the gateway. You pass through. The triumphs in your life tend to be real ones, earned.
This Moon needs worthy goals, because small ones leave it restless. It needs discipline, because the fire scatters without structure. And it needs allies who share the fire, because a partner with no purpose of their own drains a Vishakha faster than any obstacle.
Challenges
The shadow is goal pursuit at the cost of everything else. The same focus that achieves can consume relationships, health and joy on the way. A mature Vishakha has learned that the road matters as well as the gate at the end of it.
A second shadow is jealousy. The fire can read another person's victory as a loss for you. It is not. The field of achievement is wide, and the Vishakha Moons who understand that are the ones other people are happy to see win.
The third is the let down after arrival. The goal achieved sometimes does not satisfy the way you expected. I have watched this happen more than once: the long project finished, the gate passed through, and a strange flatness on the other side. The work is to renew your purpose rather than collapse after the win. There is always another gate.
In love and work
In love, you bring the same intensity you bring to everything. You want a partner who is going somewhere and who understands that you are too. You are loyal, passionate and generous to someone who shares your direction. Watch for treating the relationship as one more project, and for forgetting that a partner is a person with campaigns of their own.
In work, you are the one who delivers. Long projects, hard targets, anything that needs someone to hold the course through the middle years. Leadership suits you because people can see where you are pointed. You do badly in work with no clear aim, and you do badly under a manager who keeps moving the goal.
Jupiter's influence
Jupiter, Guru in Jyotish and also called Brihaspati, is the teacher, the planet of wisdom, expansion, faith and good fortune. It rules Sagittarius and Pisces and is the greatest of the benefics, the kindly planets.
Under Jupiter, Vishakha's ambition has meaning in it. It is purpose with a philosophy behind it, and the fire is lit by something you believe. Jupiter also gives this Moon its generosity toward those who follow, and its tendency to grow into a teacher once the goals are won.
Across the traditions
Vishakha straddles sidereal Libra and Scorpio. In the Western zodiac, about 24 degrees further along, the same stars fall in the second half of Scorpio. So nearly everyone with a Vishakha Moon has a Western Moon in Scorpio, and the Scorpio Moon's intensity and staying power agree closely with the Vedic reading. The Moon in the Signs page gives the Western view, and I would read both together for anyone with this placement.
