Twenty to twenty five souls who travel with you across lifetimes. In each lifetime you all take on different roles in each other's lives. You have met most of them before, many times, and you will meet them again.

Home, and why we leave it

Our home is the spirit world. We choose to come to this physical plane to learn.

When you choose to incarnate, you have already chosen many of the key points of your life. You have chosen your birth parents, and your spirit being attaches itself to the baby. At the moment of that human connection, your consciousness becomes human, with all of the limitations that come with it. That is the actor on stage choosing to forget about their life off the stage and focus only on the character's life.

You do not make the trip alone. Each incarnation you travel with the same group of spirit beings, and you take on different roles in each other's lives.

The play

The best way I have found to understand it is an analogy.

Imagine you are an actor in a stage play. You chose this play because you want the experience that being this particular character will give you. In your head you know none of it is real. In your heart you play it as if it is: the dramas, the tragedies, the love, the laughter, the triumphs. You know the whole experience will enrich you.

The other actors in the play are your soul group. Twenty to twenty five of them. In this play one is your mother, one your best friend, one your first love, one the person who made your life difficult. In the last play the parts were handed out differently. In the next one they will be different again, depending on what each of you wants to learn.

Now imagine you are also in the audience. You came along to see the play because you knew it would give you an experience that would stay with you. That audience member is your higher self.

When the play is over, the actors meet and share what each of them went through, and each one learns from the others. Then the actor you and the audience you sit down together, backstage, and talk about what you learnt and what you gained. You talk from the actor's perspective and from the audience member's perspective. Your soul grows from the duality of that experience. You are one with each other.

Then you decide if you want to repeat that experience or have another adventure.

You can go off script. You still try to stick to your reason for being here.

Why it matters day to day

Understanding all of that makes it easier to understand some of the complexities life gives us.

Some of the souls in your group are in your life for a reason, some for a season and some for a lifetime, and the A Reason, a Season or a Lifetime page is about that. All of them are part of the same group, doing the job they agreed to do in your growth, while you do yours in theirs.

It also explains why the word soul mate gets so confused. Every one of the twenty to twenty five is, in a sense, your soul mate, or in simpler terms your soul friend. The Soul Mates page takes that further, including the uncomfortable part, which is that one of them may be playing your enemy.

How to recognise them

When you connect with someone from your soul group, the connection resonates. They feel familiar.

If you find yourself second guessing every one of those feelings, the Monkey Mind page in the Your Abilities area is where I teach the method for telling a real sense from your own head.

True family

True family is sometimes not a blood relation.

One of my favourite authors is Richard Bach, and one of his lines gave me an epiphany when I first read it. "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life. Rarely do members of one family grow up under the same roof."

That is the soul group described in two sentences. Some of your group will be born into your family, because you chose your birth parents. Rarely will all of them be under the same roof.

When one of them goes

Because your group travels together across lifetimes, nobody in it is ever lost for good.

When one of them dies, the human in you grieves, and so it should. The spirit being inside you knows you will be reunited when you take your own crossing, and that you will meet backstage and talk about the play. The Taken Too Soon page is about the hardest version of that.

Something to sit with

Who in your life do you recognise as part of your soul group?

Write the names down. Next to each, write the part you think they are playing this time. Then ask yourself, gently, what part you are playing in theirs.

You do not need anyone to confirm the list for you. You were there when the parts were handed out.
