Personal Year, Month and Day
Your Life Path is the road. Your Personal Year is the season you are walking it in.
The core numbers in your chart describe who you are and what you came to do, and they hold still for a lifetime. The Personal Year, Month and Day move. They are numerology's way of telling the time, and once you know them you stop trying to plant seeds in a season meant for clearing the ground.
The nine year cycle
Everything in numerology runs in nines. The world moves through a Universal Year, and you get it by adding the digits of the calendar year. 2026 is 2 plus 0 plus 2 plus 6, which is 10, and 1 plus 0 is 1. So 2026 is a Universal Year 1, the first year of a brand new nine year cycle for everybody. 2027 is 2 plus 0 plus 2 plus 7, which is 11, and 11 is a Master Number, so it stays: 2027 is a Universal Year 11/2, the 2 year of the cycle with the voltage turned up. 2028 is a 3, and so on up to 2034, which is a 9. In 2035 the count starts again at 1. The page on 2027, the Universal Year 11/2, goes further.
The Universal Year is the weather the whole world walks under. Your Personal Year is your own weather inside it, and the two do not have to match. Plenty of people are in a 1 year with the rest of the world this year. Plenty are not.
Finding your Personal Year
The Personal Year post in the daily posts shows you how to work yours out in about ten seconds, so I will only summarise it here. Add three numbers: your birth day, your birth month and the current year. Each one keeps 11, 22 or 33 when it lands on one, so the 11th, the 22nd and the 29th go in whole, November goes in as 11, and a Master year such as 2027 goes in as 11. Everything else is reduced to a single digit first. Then add the three and reduce once more, keeping a Master if the total lands on one. Do it in that order. I lead with this method because it matches the way the Life Path is worked out.
Some numerologists reduce every part to a single digit first and keep a Master only in the total. Most of the time the two methods agree. When they do not, the calculator shows both. A birthday of 26 November in 2026 is the classic case. Masters kept gives 8 plus 11 plus 1, which is 20 and then 2, while single digit parts give 8 plus 2 plus 1, which is 11/2. I would read it as a 2. How to Reduce a Number sets the two methods side by side. A third method reduces everything, the total included, and keeps no Master at all, and I do not use it.
The May post on the numerology of 2026 ran every digit together in one string, and that shortcut can land on a different number, so this is the method to use.
Sarah, born 14 March, gets 5 for the day, 3 for the month and 1 for 2026. 5 plus 3 plus 1 is 9, so Sarah is in a Personal Year 9.
I count the Personal Year from birthday to birthday. Until your birthday comes round this year, you are still living last year's number.
What each year asks of you
The cycle is easiest to understand as a garden, nine seasons long.
In a 1 year you plant. It is the year for starting, for choosing a direction and stepping out on your own. What you begin now sets the tone for the next nine years, so choose with some care.
In a 2 year nothing much seems to happen above ground. The seed is putting down roots. This is the year of patience, of partnership and cooperation, of letting other people in. People in a 2 often think they have stalled. They have not. Things are ripening at their own pace.
In a 3 year the first green shows. It is a year of expression, friends, creativity and being seen. Say what you have to say, make things, and enjoy it, because the 4 is coming.
In a 4 year you build the fence and the trellis. It is the work year, steady and unglamorous, and the foundations you lay now carry everything that follows. Nobody claps for a 4 year. Do the work anyway.
In a 5 year the wind comes through. Change, movement, travel, the unexpected. The 5 sits in the middle of the cycle and tests what you have built. Whatever is well rooted bends. Whatever is not gets blown over, and you are better off knowing.
In a 6 year the garden needs tending. Home, family, love and responsibility come to the front, and other people need you. Relationships deepen or show you where they were never deep.
In a 7 year you sit in the garden and look at it. This is the inward year, for rest, study, reflection and spiritual work. Push hard for worldly results in a 7 and you will feel like you are wading through sand. Go inside instead.
In an 8 year you harvest. Money, recognition, authority and results arrive in proportion to the work you did in the 4. The 8 tells you plainly what the last seven years produced.
In a 9 year you clear the beds. Things end, people move on, and whatever has finished its work leaves. It is the year of completion and release.
The turnover from 9 to 1
The 9 is the year people struggle with most, and the reason is simple. They try to start the new thing in it. A 9 will not hold a new beginning. Things you start in a 9 tend to wobble, because the ground has not been cleared yet. A 9 year often feels tired, a little sad, full of endings you did not entirely choose. Let them go. Clear the beds. Give away what you no longer use, finish what is half done, and forgive whoever needs forgiving, yourself included.
Then your birthday comes, and the 1 arrives. People often describe the first weeks of a 1 year as waking up. The energy comes back, ideas arrive, and doors that would not budge last year swing open.
Sarah is a good example of the gap between the world and the person. The world went into a 1 on 1 January 2026. Sarah went into her 9 on her birthday, 14 March, and she stays in it until her birthday next year. Everyone around her is talking about fresh starts, and she is clearing the shed. That is exactly right for her. On 14 March 2027 she reaches her own 1, because 5 plus 3 plus 11 (2027 keeps its Master 11) is 19, and 1 plus 9 is 10, and 10 is 1. The 19 on the way through is a Karmic Debt sitting behind her new beginning, which the Karmic Debt post explains. She will start her new cycle a year after the world did, with clear ground under her.
Master totals
If your Personal Year adds up to 11, 22 or 33 at the final step, keep it. When the year itself is a Master, as 2027 is, it goes into the sum as 11, not 2. In 2026 the only Master that can appear is 11. Someone born on 9 January gets 9 plus 1 plus 1, which is 11. A Personal Year 11 is the 2 year with the voltage turned up: intuition louder, coincidences piling up, nerves running high. The Master Numbers post in the daily posts tells you more. If the total before you reduce lands on 13, 14, 16 or 19, make a note of that too, because that is a Karmic Debt sitting behind the year, and the Karmic Debt post covers it.
Personal Month
Inside the year sit the months. Add your Personal Year to the number of the calendar month, then reduce, keeping 11 and 22 if you land on them. If your Personal Year is itself a Master 11, add the month to its root, 2, because the Master belongs to the year as a whole and the months inside it count from the root.
Emma, born 6 August, is in a Personal Year 6 for 2026 (6 plus 8 plus 1 is 15, which is 6). November is the eleventh month, so her November is 6 plus 11, which is 17, which is 8. Inside a year about home and family, November is the month to get the money side in order.
Someone born on 4 May is in a Personal Year 1 for 2026 (4 plus 5 plus 1 is 10, which is 1). October is the tenth month, and 1 plus 10 is 11, so this person has a Personal Month 11 sitting inside a Universal Month 11. That is a lot of intuition in one place.
Each month in the daily posts I write up the month's universal number, as in the October and November posts, and show you how to add your own.
Personal Day
Inside the month sit the days. Add your Personal Month to the calendar day, and reduce.
Emma's November is an 8, so on 20 November she has 8 plus 20, which is 28, then 10, then 1. A Personal Day 1 is a good day to begin something.
Sarah's December is 9 plus 12, which is 21, which is 3. On 25 December she has 3 plus 25, which is 28, then 10, then 1.
I would not run your life by the Personal Day. Notice it, the same way you notice the weather before you go out. The year is the season, the month is the week's forecast, and the day is what you see when you open the back door. Work out all three for today, then look back tonight and see whether the day agreed with you.
