Page of Pentacles tarot card, Rider Waite Smith deck

The practical student. News about work, money or study.

The picture

A young man stands in a green field dotted with flowers, holding a single pentacle up in both hands and gazing at it. He wears a green tunic and a red headdress with a long trailing end. Trees grow on one side of him, and on the other a ploughed field lies below a mountain.

Upright

Pages are students and messengers. The Page of Pentacles is the student of the practical world: a first job, a course, an apprenticeship, the first real budget. As a messenger, he brings news about money, work, study or health, usually a small offer with room to grow.

Look at his focus. He holds the coin like the most interesting thing he has ever seen. That is the gift of this Page, the willingness to learn something slowly and properly.

Like every court card, this can be a person, an approach, or a part of you. It might be a young worker or a keen student, and age and gender do not limit who it describes. It might be learning by doing. Or it might be the part of you that wants to start something small and see where it leads.

Reversed

Reversed, I read this as delayed, or blocked. Delayed is news that takes its time, a course that starts later, an offer still on its way. Blocked is study that has stalled, or planning that never quite turns into ploughing.

To tell which, ask whether you are waiting on someone else or on yourself. If the next move is theirs, be patient. If it is yours, take one small practical step this week.

When it turns up

What practical thing would you like to learn, and what is the first small step?
