The 78 Cards
Four of Cups
Minor Arcana, the suit of Cups, the Four. Element: water.

Sitting still, and missing what is being offered.
The picture
A young man sits cross legged on a grassy hill under a tree, his arms folded and his eyes cast down. Three cups stand in a row on the grass in front of him. Out of a small cloud, a hand holds out a fourth cup towards him. He does not appear to see it.
Upright
Four is stability and foundations, and sometimes it is standing still. In Cups, it is the heart that has stopped moving.
This is the card of boredom, apathy and discontent. Everything you need is in front of you, three perfectly good cups, and none of it feels like enough. So you fold your arms and look at the ground.
Now look at the hand in the cloud. It echoes the hand that offers the cup in the Ace, and here it is offering again. Something new is being held out, and the man is too busy with his own thoughts to notice.
There is a kinder reading too. Sometimes this is needed rest. You have had enough, you have stepped back to sit under the tree, and you are taking stock. That is fine. The card only asks that you lift your eyes now and then, so the next offer does not float past unseen.
Reversed
Reversed, I read this card as delayed, or as too much.
Delayed is the good news. The man is about to look up. The withdrawal is ending and interest is coming back into your life, even if it is coming slowly.
Too much is the sitting that has gone on too long. Rest has turned into a rut, and the rut has become comfortable. Every offer gets the same folded arms.
To tell which, ask whether the stillness is still doing you any good. If you can feel yourself stirring and wanting something again, it is delayed, and the turn is on its way. If the answer to every invitation is "no, not yet" and has been for months, the tree has become a hiding place.
When it turns up
What is being held out to you right now that you have not stopped long enough to see?
If you would like the cards read against your own chart, my readings are here.
