Energy Work
Projecting Energy
You already project energy. You have been doing it since you were born.
Walk into a room in a foul mood and watch what happens to the people in it. Nobody has to say a word. Walk in glowing and watch that too. That is projection, and the only question on this page is whether you are going to keep doing it by accident.
I learned this the odd way round
As a teenager I discovered that I could put a thought into somebody's head and watch them pick it up. I could also feel what people were thinking before they said it. I had nobody to ask about either of those things, so for a long time I treated them as a private oddity, and used the first one more than I should have.
What I learned, slowly, is that projection is always happening, in both directions, between everybody, and treating it as a trick to do to people misses the whole of it. The people who are good at it are simply the ones who have noticed, and who have decided to be responsible for what they send.
What you radiate
Start with the honest question. As you go about your day, what energy are you putting out?
Are you kind to people? Do you pay a compliment when one is deserved, out loud, rather than thinking it and moving on? Do you treat the people who serve you, at the checkout, at the counter, on the phone, with the same respect you would give someone you wanted to impress? Do you try to make people smile?
All of it affects your spiritual growth, and all of it affects your abilities, and here is why. The energy you send out is the energy you are training yourself to carry. A person who projects contempt at the checkout all day cannot suddenly project healing at night. The channel is the same channel. Whatever you run through it most often is what it learns to run.
The exercise: a random act of kindness
Here is the exercise I use to teach projection properly, and it is the one my students remember years later when they have forgotten everything else.
This week, do a random act of kindness for someone. Unconditionally. With a smile. Wanting nothing back, not even thanks.
The pensioner five dollars short at the checkout. The person struggling with something too heavy for them. Somebody who has fallen over while everyone else pretends not to have seen. Somebody who plainly needs a hug and is never going to ask for one. The list is endless, and you will find that once you are looking, the chances arrive several times a day. It is simply reaching out to someone when nobody else is.
Now the part that makes it an energy exercise rather than a nice deed. As you do it, watch what happens to their energy. You will see it lift, visibly, in the face and the shoulders, sometimes in the eyes before anything else. Then, and this is the point, notice what happens to yours.
That is projection done right. Energy sent out on purpose, for someone else's good, that comes back to you fuller than it left. Being able to do this unconditionally is vital for your spiritual growth and for your control of energy, and no amount of sitting on a cushion will teach it to you. It has to be done out in the world.
Sending on purpose
Once you can feel energy in your hands, and the body energy page shows you how, you can send it deliberately.
Make an energy ball between your palms, the way you learned. Feel it there, with a little give in it. Then think of someone who needs a lift, and while you hold the feeling of them, open your hands and let the ball go to them. Picture it arriving. See it land somewhere around their heart and soak in. That is all.
Distance makes no difference. The same energy that works across a kitchen table works across the world, and I have sent it to people on the other side of the planet and had them message me the next morning asking what I did.
Two rules, and neither is optional
Ask permission first. Out loud or silently, of the person and of whatever is doing the work through you. Energy sent at someone who has not agreed to receive it is interference, however loving your intentions, and it will come back to you in ways you will not enjoy. If you cannot ask them directly, ask inwardly and wait. You will get an answer, and sometimes the answer is no, and no means no. There is a whole piece on asking permission in the Healing area, because it matters that much.
Send it through you, never out of you. If you feel drained after sending, you have poured out your own energy instead of letting energy pass through you from above. The healing page explains why that energy comes in through the crown, and why the difference between being a channel and being a battery is the difference between a healer who lasts forty years and one who burns out in two.
The everyday version
You do not need a ritual for most of this. Decide, each morning before you leave the house, what you are going to radiate today. One word will do. Warmth. Patience. Steadiness. Then go and do it, and notice how the day comes back to you.
The people around you will feel it before you have said good morning. They always have. Now you are choosing what they feel.
The mistakes people make
Sending without asking. It is the most common mistake and the most costly. Ask.
Sending your own energy. If you are tired afterwards, you did it wrong, and the fix is on the healing page.
Projecting to change someone. You are sending support, not instructions. The moment there is an outcome you want from them attached to it, it stops being kindness and starts being control, and the energy knows.
Waiting until you feel ready. You are already doing it. The only choice is whether to do it well.
