Queen of Pentacles tarot card, Rider Waite Smith deck

Care you can touch. Warmth, good sense and a well kept home.

The picture

A queen sits on a carved stone throne in a garden, holding a pentacle in her lap and looking down at it. Roses grow in a bower over her head, flowers bloom around her, and a rabbit leaps through the grass in the bottom right corner. Mountains rise in the distance.

Upright

Queens hold mastery on the inside. They hold and nurture their suit. The Queen of Pentacles nurtures the physical world: a hot meal, a budget that works, a home people want to come to, a body that is looked after.

She holds the coin in her lap the way you would hold something you were caring for. She is resourceful and grounded, generous without fuss, and she knows where everything is. The garden grows around her because she tends it.

Like every court card, she can be a person, an approach or a part of you, and age and gender do not limit who she describes. She might be the friend who turns up with soup, a practical way of caring, or the part of you that makes a place feel like home.

Reversed

Reversed, I read this as too much or too little. Too much is care that smothers: running everyone's house and everyone's money, and feeling hurt when they want to do it themselves. Too little is the home, the body or the finances quietly neglected, usually because work or other people come first.

To tell which, look at your own kitchen. If you are running someone else's as well as yours, it is too much. If yours has been left to fend for itself, it is too little.
