We are in the Year of the Fire Horse, and the year has just changed gears.
In Chinese astrology the months follow the sun, and in early July the Horse month gave way to the month of the Goat. It runs until early August.
If the Horse is the gallop, the Goat is the graze.
The Goat is the gentle one of the twelve: kind, creative, artistic, community minded, the peacemaker who would rather mend a fence than win an argument. Some traditions call it the Sheep or the Ram, and the softness is the same.
If you read my post on the friends and rivals of the zodiac, you might remember the Goat sits in the peacemaker trine with the Rabbit and the Pig. That gentleness is the month’s weather now, for all of us.
After the double Horse energy of June, when everything wanted to move at once, the Goat month lets the year breathe. The ambition of the Fire Horse year does not go anywhere. It just gains grace for a while.
So what does a Goat month ask of you?
Make something with your hands. The Goat is the artisan of the zodiac, and creative work done slowly is this month’s medicine.
Tend your people. Check on the friend who went quiet, share a meal, mend the small tear in a relationship before it becomes a hole.
And let kindness lead. The Goat wins nothing by force and everything by warmth.
It is no accident this lines up with the western sky right now, a New Moon in gentle Cancer planting new roots. Two systems, one message. Soften, tend, and let things grow.
