This week the cards drew the Ace of Cups, and the timing is no accident.
Two nights ago, on Tuesday 14 July, the Moon turned new in Cancer, the sign of the heart’s home. And here is the tarot’s twin of that very sky: the card of a brand new emotional beginning.
In the old pictures a hand reaches out of a cloud, offering a golden cup. The cup overflows, five streams pouring into a pool of water lilies below. A white dove descends toward it.
Nobody in the picture has earned the cup. It is simply offered.
That is the whole teaching of the Ace.
Last week the Six of Cups took us back into memory, the sweetness of what was. The Ace of Cups is what comes after the visit: the heart, having looked back, begins to fill again.
And not only with romance. A new love is one face of this card, but so is forgiveness arriving after a long freeze. A friendship that begins out of nowhere. The return of feeling to a part of your life that had gone numb.
Creative love, the kind that pours into something you make.
And the quietest one, a new gentleness toward yourself.
The Ace asks only one thing of you.
Take the cup.
Do not stand there asking whether you deserve it, or whether it will spill, or what it will cost. An offered cup refused does not wait forever.
So this week, when something warm is held out to you, a kind word, an apology, an invitation, a small joy, practise saying yes to it. Let the cup overflow. There is more where it came from.
