On Friday evening at 5:38, our time, the Sun leaves Libra and crosses into Scorpio.
Happy birthday to our Scorpio members, your season starts on Friday.
Every year the Sun walks the same circle through the twelve signs, and every sign gives its weeks a flavour.
Libra gave us a month of the other person.
The equinox, the scales, a Full Moon that asked what you want, a New Moon that asked what would be fair, and Venus turning around in the middle of it all to review everything you love.
Scorpio takes the baton on Friday, and the whole style changes.
Scorpio does depth.
Scorpio is the water sign that runs deepest, the sign of what is under the surface, the thing you feel and do not say, the ending that turns into a beginning.
Where Libra asks what is fair, Scorpio asks what is true.
Think of a still dam in the middle of summer.
Flat, calm, reflecting the sky.
And under it, twenty metres of cold water, old branches, and everything that ever fell in.
That is Scorpio, and for the next month that is where the Sun is shining, on the twenty metres rather than the surface.
Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet I wrote about last week, the one that turned direct on the 16th.
So the sign of deep change gets its month just as Pluto has started moving forward again, and that is a good pairing.
Now, this year’s Scorpio season opens with a crowd already in the room.
Venus has been retrograde in Scorpio since the 3rd, and Mercury has been in Scorpio for a fortnight.
So when the Sun arrives on Friday evening, it finds both of them waiting.
Then Saturday.
At 11:44 on Saturday morning the Sun and Venus meet at the first degree of Scorpio, the exact halfway point of the Venus review.
And at 3:13 on Saturday afternoon Mercury stops and turns retrograde, in Scorpio, until the middle of November.
So the first three weeks of Scorpio season have Venus and Mercury both walking backwards through the deepest sign there is.
That is a season for looking rather than launching.
Old feelings, old conversations and old money matters come back up from the bottom of the dam to be looked at properly, and this time you have the light to see them by.
The numbers agree, because October is an 11 month, the intuition month, with a week left to run.
November is a 3 month, the month of talking and making, so whatever Scorpio dredges up, November will want to say out loud.
A few things Scorpio season is made for.
Finishing something properly, with the ending it deserves rather than a fade out.
The honest conversation about money, intimacy or power that Libra season was too polite to have.
Sorting out what is yours and what is shared, in a bank account or in a bed.
And letting one thing die that has been dead for a while, so the compost can start.
One thing to watch.
Scorpio’s shadow is the grudge.
I have said before that hating somebody is drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die, and Scorpio season is when that poison tastes best.
Notice the grudge, name it, and put the cup down.
Tomorrow’s Card of the Week will tell you the same thing in pictures, so check in.
For now, use the last two days of Libra to be fair to somebody.
On Friday evening, the light goes under.
What is one thing at the bottom of the dam that you are ready to look at this season?
