Around midday on Sunday 23 August, Perth time, the Sun leaves Leo and crosses into Virgo.
Happy birthday to our Virgo members, your season starts today.
Every year the Sun walks the same circle through the twelve signs, and each sign gives its weeks a particular flavour.
Leo gave us a month of fire. Big feelings, big pride, big sky, and the biggest eclipse of the year right in the middle of it.
Virgo now takes the baton, and Virgo works in a completely different style.
Virgo is the harvest sign. The energy of tending, sorting, mending and caring for what the fire started. Where Leo asks to be seen, Virgo asks to be useful.
Think of a gardener moving down a row of seedlings. Watering here, staking there, pinching off what will not fruit. Nothing dramatic. Everything essential.
That is Virgo, and for the next month that is the invitation for all of us.
I have spent my working life in IT, and I can tell you the Virgo truth from that world. The small detail is the difference between a system that runs and a system that falls over. The unglamorous check, done daily, is what keeps the whole thing alive.
Virgo season brings that energy to every part of life.
And the timing this year is beautiful.
Last fortnight’s eclipse planted something new in many of us. Seeds do not grow from lightning. They grow from watering.
Virgo season is the watering.
The numbers agree, because August is a Universal Month 9, the month the numbers give to finishing and clearing, and it has one week left to run. So this first Virgo week is for completing and tending, and then September opens a brand new cycle. More on that when it arrives.
A few things Virgo season is made for.
Sorting the one drawer, cupboard or corner that has been quietly bothering you. Tending your body with a little more care, because Virgo is the sign of health and the daily routine. Finishing the small jobs that free your energy for the big ones. And noticing the people who serve quietly, because service is Virgo’s love language.
One thing to watch.
Virgo’s shadow is criticism, especially self criticism. The gardener does not scold the seedling for being small. Tend yourself the same way you would tend the garden.
