The Full Moon in Aries

At 12:49 this morning, Sunday 27 September, Perth time, while most of us were asleep, the Moon came full at 4 degrees of Aries.

It is the first Full Moon of spring, and it completes the cycle that began at the New Moon on 11 September.

Sixteen days ago that New Moon in Virgo asked you to plant something small and give it a daily practice. Last Saturday the First Quarter asked you to decide on half the information. On Wednesday the equinox asked you to find where you had been leaning too far one way, and to take one step back toward the middle.

And now the Full Moon.

A Full Moon is the release point. The Moon stands directly opposite the Sun, fully lit, nothing hidden, and whatever has been building in the cycle comes into the open.

This one has a very particular shape.

The Sun is in Libra, the sign of the scales, of the other person, of what is fair. The Moon is in Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, the sign that says I.

So the sky has put the two of them face to face.

The self, and the other.

What I want, and what is fair to you.

Last Sunday I wrote about Libra, about weighing both sides, about balance as a moment you pass through.

This week the Moon asks the question Libra is very bad at asking.

What do YOU want?

What you actually want, said plainly, once, rather than whatever would keep the peace.

I am going to be personal for a moment, because I know this one from the inside.

For a long stretch of my life my answer to almost every question was “whatever you like”. Where do you want to eat, whatever you like. What do you want to do this weekend, whatever you like.

I thought it was kindness.

What it actually was, was handing the other person the whole job of wanting, and then quietly resenting them for the choices they made with it.

Nobody can meet you in the middle if you will not tell them where you are standing.

That is what the Aries Moon is about. Aries wants first, out loud, and negotiates second, because then there is finally something on the table.

And here is the balance I promised you last week.

Libra without Aries is a person who agrees with everybody and disappears. Aries without Libra is a person who wants loudly and never asks what it costs anyone else.

The Full Moon holds both, and it asks you to hold both.

Say what you want. Then listen to what is fair. In that order.

One caution for today, and it is a real one.

The Moon is full right beside Neptune, the planet of fog, dreams and longing. Under this Moon feelings will feel like facts, and the story in your head will feel like the whole story.

So feel it fully, write it down if you need to, and give it a day before you act on it. By Monday the fog lifts and Mars steps into Leo, and what you decided in the clear will still be true.

If you have been wearing the hard shell for a long time, the marshmallow inside has a want in it too.

This is the Moon to let it speak.

So here is the practice for today.

Pick one place in your life where you have been saying “whatever you like”. Work out what you actually want there. Then say it, plainly, to the person it concerns, without a speech and without an apology.

One want, said once.

Then let Libra do the rest.

What have you been leaving unsaid?
