Yesterday morning, Monday 28 September, Mars changed sign. After seven weeks in Cancer, Mars is in Leo, and stays there until late November.
Mars is the planet of drive.
It is the part of you that gets up, pushes, wants, defends and acts.
In Cancer that drive turned inward. Home, family, the people you protect, the front door locked and the feelings kept behind it.
Leo turns it outward.
Leo is the sign of the stage, the heart, the roar, and the part of you that wants to be seen doing the thing you are good at.
So for the next two months the question changes.
Cancer asked, is it safe?
Leo asks, who is watching?
And here is the teaching in it.
Most of us have a hard shell on the outside and a marshmallow inside, and I have written about that before.
Mars in Leo leaves the shell where it is. What it gives you is the courage to step out from behind it, in front of people, and let the marshmallow be seen anyway.
That takes more nerve than any fight.
I think of life as a play.
You are the actor, and the audience is your own soul, watching to see what you do with the part.
Mars in Leo is the scene where you stop mumbling your lines at the back of the stage and walk down to the front. The play gets better when you commit, and shouting has nothing to do with it.
Now the shadow, because Mars always has one. Leo can tip from being seen into needing to be seen.
If you find yourself performing for the approval rather than for the joy, that is Mars gone sour, and the fix is to go back and do the thing for its own sake.
And one caution for this Saturday.
Mars faces Pluto across the sky on Saturday evening, so tempers can run hot and power games are easy to start and hard to stop.
Pick your battles, and pick very few.
So the practice for this Mars season.
Choose one thing you are good at that you have been doing quietly.
Do it where somebody can see it, and do it for its own sake rather than for the applause. It is yours, and hiding it was never humility, it was fear.
What have you been doing quietly that deserves the front of the stage?
