Energy Blocks
A blockage in any part of you can slow your learning down. At times it can stop it altogether.
People usually notice the effect long before they notice the block. The meditation that went well for months and then stopped going anywhere. The same argument with a different person. The fear that arrives every time a particular thing comes up, as reliably as a train. Something is in the way, and the energy that should be moving is not.
This page is about finding those blocks, in yourself first and then in other people, and about what helps them shift.
The five aspects of you
You are made up of five aspects, and a block can sit in any one of them.
- Spiritual
- Physical
- Mental
- Emotional
- Sexual
Some of those are obvious from the list. Others are not. Life experiences cause all sorts of problems in each of the five, and the ones that are not obvious are the ones people miss.
It is important to be in touch with every one of the five. To know what works for you in each, and what does not.
Finding your own
Try this, and give it more than one sitting.
Write down what you know about yourself in each of the five aspects. Most people find it surprisingly hard to come up with much at first. That is because life and society have taught you that paying attention to yourself is selfish. It is never selfish to make your health in all five your highest priority. Looking after you comes first, and nobody will respect you more than you respect yourself.
Then ask yourself the same set of questions about each aspect in turn.
- What do I like about it?
- What do I dislike about it?
- What would I change?
- Why would I change that?
- How do I feel about it?
- What is the feeling behind that feeling?
- Was there a time I felt differently about it?
- If so, what happened that changed it?
- What do I believe is the healthiest version of it?
- Do I want to be that healthiest version?
This can be confronting. Write it warts and all, the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. What you end up with is a map of yourself, and the map shows you where the blocks are. The Authentic You post takes the same map in a slightly different direction.
Other places to look
Your triggers. Life teaches us to respond to certain situations in certain ways, and some of those responses are triggers, strong emotional reactions that fire before you have had time to think. Those responses are very often what holds back spiritual development. Like any learned response, recognising and identifying a trigger is halfway to healing it and leaving it in the past where it belongs.
Your wardrobe. The colours you like to wear can give you insight into the parts of yourself that need healing or growing. Look at what dominates your wardrobe. Next time you shop, try on colours far from your usual ones and notice what your inner voice says, and what feelings come up.
Your laughter. When did you last have a belly laugh that brought tears to your eyes? If you cannot remember, look around at what is getting in the way of it. That is a block too.
What you say to yourself. If you can put energy into water and food, think about the energy you are drenching yourself in every day, in the mirror and in your own head. If what you find there is negative, that is worth working on as much as anything else on this page.
Shifting a block
Recognising a block is halfway to shifting it, the same as with a trigger. You cannot work on what you have not seen.
For the rest, there are tools. One I have seen work very well is EFT, the Emotional Freedom Technique, sometimes called tapping. It was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990s, and it works by tapping a set of points on the face and body in sequence while you hold the issue in mind. Think of it as making a key to fit the lock that is holding you back. I have seen major fears in people simply erased in a matter of minutes.
You rate the issue from 0 to 10 before you start and again after each round. If it comes down, keep going until it reaches 0 or stops moving. If it refuses to reach 0, there may be an underlying issue connected to it, and that is the next block to look at. The full method, with the statements and the tapping points, is in the EFT, Tapping Away What Holds You Back post, and it can be done on yourself or by someone for you.
Then the daily practice underneath everything. Thirty minutes of meditation a day and regular grounding are the foundation, and without them nothing else you do here takes root. The Thirty Minutes a Day page and the Grounding page set those up.
And a word of reassurance. There is an urban myth that to be spiritual you have to be fixed, healed and complete first. We came here to be flawed, and we will leave flawed. Sometimes moving forward means some healing and sometimes it does not. A block is something to work with, and having one says nothing bad about you.
Seeing a block in someone else
As your abilities develop you will start to sense blocks in other people, sometimes very clearly.
Two rules from the rest of this area apply here more than anywhere.
Come through the crown. When you connect with someone through your crown you can observe their issues without taking on the energy of them. Connect from your heart and you will feel their block as though it were your own, and carry some of it home. The Healing Through the Crown page explains why.
Ask before you say anything. Seeing someone's block does not mean they are ready to hear about it, and it certainly does not mean they want you to fix it. Ask whether they would like you to share what you are picking up, and if they say no, hold onto it. The Asking Permission page covers this in full. Chances are they will ask you about it later, when they are ready.
Beside medical care
An energy block can sit alongside a physical problem, and energy work sits beside medical care, never in place of it. If a block is showing up in your body, see a doctor as well. If you feel unsure about working on something alone, get help from a practitioner you are comfortable with.
Where to begin
Start with the map. Write the five aspects, ask the ten questions, and be patient with what comes out. You know more about where you are blocked than you think, and the writing will show you.
