Yesterday, Friday 11 September, the New Moon asked you to plant something small. Today I want to talk about the thing that keeps it alive.
Grounding.
It is the most basic practice I teach, and it is the one people skip.
So what is it?
It is exactly what the name says. Connecting yourself to the ground, to Mother Earth.
Here is the way I explain it that makes it land for most people.
The house you live in has an electrical earth built into it. It is there for safety. If something goes wrong, the dangerous current has somewhere to go, straight into the ground, where it disperses harmlessly.
Your body works on the same principle.
You are an electrical being. If you did biology at school you will remember that a current run through a muscle makes it move. That is you, literally.
So it makes good sense to give yourself an earth.
Now, why it matters more than people think.
Anyone walking a spiritual path picks things up. You will come across energies that are not yours, and most of the time you will not even notice it happening. It is especially true if you read for people, or do healing work, or sit with someone in a hard moment.
You come home carrying something you did not arrive with.
If you never discharge it, it accumulates. And accumulated energy does not sit quietly. It shows up as the run of strange days, the flat mood you cannot account for, the erratic little things that seem to cluster for no reason. The more you carry, the more of that you get.
In mediumship work it goes further again, and an attachment can follow you home and stay.
I do not say that to frighten anyone. I say it because grounding takes two minutes and prevents the lot.
So how do you do it?
There are many methods and the best one is the one you will actually use.
The simplest is the one in the photo. Take your shoes off and stand on grass, on sand, on dirt, and let it happen. Feel the ground take the weight of you. Breathe, and picture whatever you are carrying running down through your feet into the earth, the way the current runs down the wire.
The earth is not harmed by it. It is enormous, and it dissolves what you give it.
If you cannot get outside, sit with your feet flat on the floor and do the same thing in your imagination. Imagination is the doorway in.
Do it daily, the way you clean your teeth daily, whether or not you feel like you need it.
The people who keep it up tell me the same things. Steadier moods. Better sleep. Less of that jangly, wired feeling at the end of a long day.
I have felt all of that myself over the years, and grounding is the first thing I go back to whenever I feel scattered.
Chop wood, carry water.
The ordinary daily practice IS the practice.
So put your feet on the ground today. The thing you planted yesterday will thank you for it.
What is your grounding method?
