Meditation and Grounding

Thirty minutes a day.

That is the whole secret, and I am sorry there is not a more exciting one.

Every ability, every healing, every insight I have ever seen someone develop was sitting on top of a daily practice, and every one I have seen fall apart was not. Meditation is the foundation. Without it nothing else takes root. With it, most of the rest turns up by itself.

This area of the Library sits underneath every other area. If you read nothing else on this site, read the first seven pages here and do what they say for a month. Then come back for the rest.

Why grounding comes first

I teach grounding before I teach anything else, and most people would rather I taught something else.

Your house has an electrical earth. A wire runs from the switchboard to a stake in the ground so that any dangerous current has somewhere safe to go instead of through you. Nobody thinks about it. It sits there doing its job.

Your body runs on the same principle. Everything you pick up from people, places and the day stays in you if it has nowhere to go, and it accumulates. By Friday you are wrung out and cannot say why. Ground it and it drains away. That is the whole of it.

It matters more the further you go. Meditate daily and you will open up, and the more you open up, the more you pick up. A sensitive person who has never learned to ground is a house with no earth wire and the current rising. The abilities arrive as headaches, broken sleep and a feeling of floating a few centimetres above your own life. Wire the earth in first and they arrive as abilities.

The methods are many. Water is the best I have found, a hose on the lawn or the shower you already take, and bare feet on grass does nearly as well. Find one that works for you and use it daily.

The daily practice

Meditation is simply stilling your mind. Most people already do it without realising, in the few seconds waiting for someone to answer the phone, or at a red light, or halfway through the dishes. The practice is noticing those moments, treasuring them, and stretching them, until half an hour of quiet is something you can sit down and do on purpose.

Thirty minutes, once a day, in the same chair at the same time if you can manage it. Ten minutes is mostly spent settling, and the real quiet begins somewhere past the fifteen minute mark. Every day matters more than any single day. The mind learns by repetition, and it starts dropping into the quiet on its own once it knows what is coming.

Years ago a curve ball came out of the blue and rocked my world to the core, and that was when I found out what all those ordinary half hours had built. The Letting Go and Control page tells that story. Build the practice while the weather is fine.

After a lifetime of learning and teaching I still practise the basics. They keep me grounded, and every ability I have was cemented there.

The pieces in this area

There are twelve pages here. The first seven are in the order I teach them, and the five after them sit alongside that sequence. If you are new, start at the top and give each one a week before moving on. If you have been meditating for years, you will know which one you skipped.

Grounding is where I start every student. It explains the house earth properly, walks through water grounding, bare feet and the methods my students have found for themselves, and shows you how to tell when you are not grounded, which is the real skill.

Thirty Minutes a Day is the practice itself: the method I use and teach, step by step, what the first weeks feel like, and the notebook by the bed. If you only read one page in this area, read this one.

Going Deeper is for the person a month in who has hit a floor. The room, the breath, your safe place, the staircase down, and what to do once you finally get there.

Letting Go and Control is the page nobody expects. The first weeks of meditation are about control, and letting go only becomes possible once you have built it. The weekly lessons are here, along with the horse and the reins, and the curve ball.

The Brain Wave States takes the mystery out of why meditation feels the way it does. Gamma, beta, alpha, theta and delta, what each one feels like from the inside, and an exercise for noticing the state change as it happens.

Visualisation is for everyone who has ever told me they cannot see pictures. I have never yet met one who was right. The front door, the other senses, and a photo exercise that settles the question in a week.

Binaural Beats ends the seven on purpose. Everything before it works with nothing but you and a chair. This is the one piece of kit I am happy to recommend, with plain cautions, and how I use it to set the frequency when I want to get somewhere fast.

Silent Contemplation sits beside meditation. Turning off the phone and reflecting quietly on yourself and your life, finding your place, how to do it, what comes up, and a few cautions.

Quiet Places to Ground Yourself Around Perth is for when the hose on the lawn is not enough. How to use a place, then the river, Kings Park, the hills and the coast.

Perth Sunrise and Sunset Meditation gives the times for 2027 and the practice for each, sunrise to fill you up and sunset to let the day go, season by season through the Perth year.

The First Ten Minutes of Grounding is the short version of the Grounding page. Ten minutes, today, with nothing to buy, what you might notice, and the quickest version of all.

Breathing to Calm the Mind is the tool you never leave at home. Why the breath works, the breathing meditation where control begins, and three ways to use it in a hurry.

Where to begin

None of this is complicated. Most of it is chop wood, carry water. The daily ordinary practice is the practice, and the dishes still need doing afterwards. What changes is the person standing at the sink.

You will be your own teacher in this. I can show you the chair, the breath and the hose on the lawn. Only you can sit down tomorrow, and the day after, and find out what your own mind does when it finally goes quiet. It has always known how. All I am doing is reminding you.

If you would like this read against your own chart, my readings are here.
