This Thursday, 13 August, in the very early hours of the morning, our time, the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun.
A total solar eclipse.
It happens at 1:36 AM Perth time, at 20 degrees of Leo.
Let me be straight with you first.
We will not see it from Perth. The path of totality crosses the far north of the world, Greenland, Iceland and Spain. Anyone who tells you to go outside and watch it here is selling you something.
But an eclipse is not a light show. It is a moment in the sky’s rhythm, and the rhythm belongs to all of us.
Every solar eclipse is a New Moon. A New Moon so exact that the Moon does not just meet the Sun, it covers it.
I think of an ordinary New Moon as planting a seed. An eclipse New Moon plants the same seed with the volume turned all the way up. What begins now unfolds over months, not weeks.
For a few minutes, somewhere on this planet, the steady light we all steer by goes dark. And in the dark, something new is seeded.
This one lands in Leo.
Leo is the sign of the heart. Courage, warmth, creativity, the willingness to be seen. And the Sun is Leo’s own ruler, so an eclipse here goes to the centre of things.
It asks a very direct question.
Where have you been dimming your own light?
The role you shrank into because it kept the peace. The creative thing you stopped doing because someone once laughed. The warmth you hold back because it feels safer.
This eclipse invites a reset of all of that.
Now, a word of care.
Over the next few days the internet will fill with eclipse panic. Doom, warnings, lists of things you must not do.
That is not how I read the sky, and it never will be.
An eclipse is not a punishment. It is a rhythm, as old as the Earth and the Moon themselves.
You do not need rituals or crystals or fear. You need one quiet moment.
Sometime between now and Thursday, sit still and ask yourself what you would begin if you trusted your own light. Write the answer down in a single sentence. Then let the sky do what it has always done.
I will walk with you through the week, sign by sign tomorrow, Monday 10 August, and the deeper teaching on Tuesday 11 August.
What would you begin if you trusted your own light?
Please share your thoughts or ask any questions.
