Have you ever wished you could simply switch off a fear?
This week the sky asks us to plant something new, and before you plant, you clear the ground. So today I want to hand you one of the most practical clearing tools I know.
It is called EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique. Some people call it face tapping or psychological acupressure. It was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990s. And it is literally tapping specific places on your face and body in a sequence while you stay focused on the challenge you want to overcome.
I have seen major fears in people simply erased in a matter of minutes using EFT. Studies have shown it can be effective with addictions, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, fears, stress, weight loss, plus a whole lot more.
How does it work?
The places you tap with your fingertips activate your body’s energy in a particular order. Consider it like making a key to fit the lock that is currently holding you back.
Here is the simple five step process.
One. Know what it is that you want to work on. If there is more than one thing you wish to resolve, focus on one at a time.
Two. See how strong that issue is. Ask yourself how strong it feels from 0 to 10, with 10 the highest and 0 not there at all. This matters, because it is how you will measure your success afterwards.
Three. Create your statement. Decide on a statement you are going to say out loud while you tap. Say you want to overcome low confidence. Your statement might be “Even though I have low confidence, I deeply and completely accept myself”.
While you make that statement, tap repeatedly on the side of your palm, about a third of the way between your wrist and the base of your little finger. Use your fingertips to do the tapping.
Four. Tap the points. Still repeating your statement, tap each of these places in order, three to eight taps at each. The diagram with this post shows you where they are.
- The centre of the top of your head.
- Your inner eyebrows.
- The outer edge of your eyes.
- Under your eyes.
- Under your nose.
- On your chin.
- On your inner collarbone.
- Under your arm.
Where there is a point on both sides, you can tap one side or both, whatever feels natural.
Five. Retest the strength of that issue. On the same 0 to 10 scale, see if it has changed. If you have followed the steps, it should have come down. Repeat the process until you reach 0, or until it no longer reduces.
If it refuses to reach zero, there could be an underlying issue connected to it, and that is worth gentle attention on its own.
One more thing worth knowing. Once the number is down, you can run the process again with a positive statement. Something like “I am full of confidence and I deeply and completely accept myself”.
Just be careful the positive statement does not restate the problem. “I no longer have low confidence” keeps your focus on the low confidence, and that only reinforces it.
Why am I sharing this today?
Tuesday evening, 14 July, brings a New Moon in Cancer, the sign of feeling, home and roots. New Moons are for planting. And with Mercury retrograde sitting right beside it, old feelings and old patterns are already surfacing for many of us, asking to be cleared rather than carried into the next season.
EFT is a tool for exactly that. Clear the ground this weekend, plant on Tuesday.
If you feel unsure about doing this on your own, please feel free to message me, or find a local practitioner you are comfortable with.
What would you clear first, if you could simply tap it away?
Come and tell me in the Perth Spiritual Learning group on Facebook, and if you need help creating your statements, ask me there or by message.
