Tonight, Wednesday 4 November, at 10:19 Perth time, Mercury passes directly between the earth and the Sun, at 12 degrees of Scorpio.
Eleven days ago I wrote to you about Venus doing exactly the same thing.
Now it is Mercury’s turn.
This is the middle of the Mercury retrograde, the exact centre of the three weeks.
Mercury turned backwards on 24 October, and it turns direct on 13 November, and tonight is the point halfway between.
Astrologers have an old name for a planet sitting right in the heart of the Sun.
They call it cazimi.
It means in the heart, and the old teaching is that a planet in the heart of the Sun is purified, burned clean, and given the Sun’s full power for a few hours.
So think of tonight like this.
For the last ten days your words have been walking backwards over old ground. Old conversations, old messages, old promises, the things you said in a hurry and the things you never said at all.
Tonight they go into the fire.
And what comes out the other side is the sentence you actually meant.
I have watched this happen in readings for years. Somebody has been going around and around a conversation for a fortnight, saying it badly, saying it again, getting nowhere.
Then somewhere around the middle of the retrograde it clicks, and they say it once, plainly, and it lands.
That is the cazimi.
In Scorpio, the sentence will be the deep one.
Scorpio does not do small talk.
It will be the true thing, the thing about what you want, what you lost, or what you will no longer put up with.
And here is a kindness on the same evening.
At 6:30 tonight, a few hours before Mercury meets the Sun, Venus in Libra makes an easy angle to Jupiter in Leo.
Affection and generosity agree.
So the evening that asks for the true sentence also gives you the warmth to say it kindly.
The practice for tonight.
Before you go to bed, sit with a piece of paper.
Write down the one thing you have been trying to say all fortnight.
Then cross it out, and write it again, shorter.
Keep going until it is one sentence.
That is the one Mercury was waiting for.
What is the one sentence you have been trying to say?
